‘Everyone will be briefly famous some day’

Following a visit in disguise by the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson to two orphanages in Turkey, which caused a political scandal between the two countries, Ekinci interviewed her in London where the Duchess apologized to Turkey, becoming an example of Ekinci’s mark on Turkish journalism.

Another of her ground breaking interviews was with Professor Stephen Hawking, the iconic scientist with ALS, at the University of Cambridge in his private study where he shared his views about God’s existence.

Ayşegül Ekinci is not only known for her exclusive interviews with Hollywood and world stars, but also for her reporting and investigations in conflict zones.

Ayşegül Ekinci stayed for months in Pakistan to witness a period when Benazir Bhutto, the former Pakistani prime minister and leader of the PPP, returned to her country from exile. She travelled extensively in Pakistan and Afghanistan and together with her team entered the madrasahs, which closed their doors to the press after the attacks of September 11, and of particular importance the Akottak Khattak Madrasah on the Afghanistan border. With her exclusive coverage, she was deemed worthy of a journalism award by TGC (Journalists Association of Turkey).

Ayşegül Ekinci also witnessed an era in Pakistan, where state of emergency was declared at the time, when she entered the Lal Madrasah in Islamabad and interviewed the madrasah’s administrators.

In an exclusive interview with the Al-Qaeda-linked Sharia Supporters Organization’s European Leader Abu Abdullah, Ekinci questioned the unknown facts about the London attacks of 2005.

Education

After graduating from university as an Industrial Engineer, Ayşegül Ekinci started a doctorate program on thermodynamics at the Warwick University (UK) but a year later she decided not to pursue an academic career and earned a Master’s degree.

As she continued to attend various programs on engineering technology in the UK and the United States and worked on her dissertation on factory organization, an interview with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair changed the path of her career.

Ekinci summarizes her career change as ‘one of the most important decisions I made and the greatest adventure of my life’.
