The passing away of Yves Saint Laurent hurt him the most. Pierre Berge, the 79 year old man who was the life partner of Yves Saint Laurent. As he was seeing off his 50 year long life partner he said: “We will never watch the sunset together again. We will never enjoy an art piece together again. One day…But one day, we will meet under the palm trees.”
He tries to stand tall while saying goodbye forever to his life partner and says: “Yves was an unhappy person. He didn’t enjoy life. Depression was frequently a part of his life”.
Now Pierre Berge is auctioning off one of the largest art collections of the world that the couple had collected over the 50 years. Why? Does he need money? Did he run out of space for the collection consisting of 730 pieces?
Pierre Berge made this decision when Yves Saint Laurent was diagnosed with brain tumor. They had shared their passion for art together. Even when their relationship forced them to live apart, their art collection lived on in both of their homes. He says: “We lived apart but we never separated”. He feels that the art collection has no ‘meaning’ without Yves Saint Laurent.
That’s the reason behind the ‘Auction of the Century’. The proceeds from the auction will be used in the fight against AIDS.
Despite everything else, life is better when it is shared.
And love is not the union of all the correct elements.
Realizing what we had shared, even after 50 years, makes our heart quiver.
