Gillian Anderson Interview

AEkinci: You were chosen as the sexiest woman during the time X Files was being broadcasted on TV. Do you find yourself sexy?

Gillian Anderson: It feels like a long time ago. No one has told me that I’m sexy for a long time now. I’m a mother of two now. My children are the center of my world. I can’t be stuck on looking sexy.

AEkinci: You are known with parts that are ‘smart and cold’. I guess you are like this in your real life as well…

Gillian Anderson: Correct observation. I’m cold and distant as a character. People who know me closely know that I’m not cold but it takes time for me to trust people. And I can’t act within such time. I like to be distant and in control.

AEkinci: You played that powerful woman who directs the secret service in the movie, Johnny English Reborn. In the movie, secret services running ads to find agents is made fun of. What do you think about that?

Gillian Anderson: There used to be an unknown secrecy about secret services. That was making the job more important than it was. Now those taboos are destroyed. I don’t think running ads in the newspapers goes with the image. I’m traditional in that sense. Certain institutions should not give up their image to be more contemporary. Same goes for secret services.

AEkinci: What kind of roles do you find interesting?

Gillian Anderson: I like to play powerful women. I don’t like women who are walked all over, who are emotional wrecks, who are left, abandoned, who are in emotional turmoils.
